Even booting into Safe Mode, the Use Simple File Sharing checkbox is not there.

Is there a registry value I can change or add?

Simple File Sharing is a feature introduced in Microsoft Windows XP. Simple File Sharing removes some file sharing security options available in other versions of Windows. This helps Windows XP administrators quickly set up folder shares.

Simple File Sharing (SFS) is always enabled and cannot be disabled in Windows XP Home Edition. The below step-by-step instructions explain how to enable/disable SFS in Windows XP Professional.

Hello Tech; In "My Computer" there is the "Shared Folder" and you can RIGHT click on it. This will open a menu where you will see in the upper LEFT of screen that say's"TASK" and when you open this will see another smaller screen and chose "GENERAL"...Now look down where there are 3 Box's Check "HIDDEN" The folder will always be there but Hidden from viewers looking at files. You can do the same with "Shared Documents" folder. Tom

Edit the registry at your own risk:

To make the change from the registry, open regedit and browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

Edit the ForceGuest REG_DWORD and change the value to decimal 0
