COpied some links for you. Don't know if you use pictures or a communication board. Try to run a search under Voice Output Communication Aids (VOCAs) that are also graphical systems, but, unlike communication boards, are high technology devices that output speech.

Sign Language is a great way for people who are non-verbal to communicate. There is also written language therapy. A boy I babysat for is autistic and he is now going through therapy and learning how to use a laptop to communicate.

A common misconception is that non-verbal means that a person has no linguistic or communication skills, and that simply is not true. Sorry, I don't have any specific information, just my own personal experience.

I have a brother who was non-verbal because of sensory intergration and sign language helped him he now talks fine. There's a video series for kids called signing time that teaches sign,I would also try picture cards. http://www.signingtime.com
