I´m brazilian, I watch movies that shows popular girls. They normally are snobish, rich, beautiful and bad. In Brazil, There isn´t this hierarchy in school. There are groups of differents styles, but it isnt like movies.

Is it true?

well, you're asking this question in the UNIVERSITY forum. Most of the stuff you see stereotyped on television occurs in middle school and high school (grades 6-12).

at the university level, people are older, generally a bit more mature (though not always) and you see less cattiness and cliquishness.

but with adolescents, it can be a mixed bag. Television is what it is, and it does not necessarily reflect real life. You can get fascinating, bright and capable popular girls. But there are also really unpleasant people who rank highly in social circles.

I grew up in a poor town. I didn't like the popular crowd when I was a kid because none of them seemed particularly smart to me. but we were rich, and we weren't bad people. They were snobby to a certain extent, but I was just as condescending.

Watch the movies "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Wayne's World" THose movies are exactly what a US high school is like.
