You can restore your PC to an earlier date.Do this:
start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.
Before you do this though copy all your pictures or music to a CD or DVD.How long ago did this happen? If it was recently you will only have to restore a day or two back. Restore is reversible so if it does not do the trick undo it.Alternatively go to the manufacturer's website and download it.
But just ask a friend to help maybe it is only disabled by mistake

If it's a computer that you bought from a computer maker like HP, Compaq, Sony, etc. You could go onto their website and find your computer model, then you need to look for updated drivers. From there you could install the latest driver for your sound and then you are fixed. Restore only works if your having trouble with a program that you installed, not necessarily driver issues.

Go through the "Add new Hardware" feature of your OS.
Let the OS run automatically looking for new hardware.

You may need to first remove instances of it in your hardware list.
