Finally, someone is on the right track. I think they should have been out-lawed long ago. Imagine the costs we all have to endure because these people are shamelessly duped into consuming large quantities of bad food. I bet our health care would go down by 20% from the closing of these feedery's. I am really concerned however that these people will be assaulted in their homes by all of the snack food makers, creameries, pizza makers and all else that is unhealthy making it truly impossible for them to control themselves. This being the case, I firmly believe it is time we begin thinking about creating a "food police" within the state and federal government. These special units could ensure we are free of harassment from the food makers as well as approve or disapprove of all foods. They should also set up policies for what a "normal" serving size should be, what types of food we are allowed to consume and what foods should be out right outlawed.
In the end, I think we all recognize what is important. People can't be expected to be responsible for every aspect of their lives. If the food makers don't care that they are killing us, then I say we need to put a stop to the death they peddle!

No, not illegal, but I think the ingredients, and the calorie counts and sodium etc, should be on a label somewhere, so you know what you are eating.
Imagine if you were allergic to peanuts-like deathly-and something was cooked in peanut oil and it was not labelled?
Most people with any kind of food allergies don't go to buffets for fear of eating something and not knowing what it is.
I don't go, very often, because I tend to overeat, and I have to watch my weight. It is not a bargain to overeat and then have to pay money to get it off again.
I think restaurants serve entirely too much food at every place I have ever been. Usually portions are 2-5 times what is healthy, but people want to get their money's worth and pig out.
Even a glass of pop is 4 times the size of a serving.
It is a REAL problem, and the solution is self-control/self-love!

Buffets shouldn't be made illegal. If a person is a hog, and wants to stuff it in he'll find food in one place or the other. It doesn't take a buffet.
Do you have any statistics on how many got fat in buffets as compaired to how many fat ones don't eat in buffets ?
If we close down buffets, shouldn't we also make all restaurants and grocery stores illegal ? Or put farmers out of business ?
All of those who love to pack it in will find the food. It isn't only the fast foods.

No, it's part of being responsible. No one makes you eat more than you should. I can even go to one on my diet, and still stick to it. The nice thing about them is that the whole family can go eat and there are choices for everyone.
As to the claims that they are dirty, if those whose children "put their fingers in the desserts" were being parents, and paying attention, it wouldn't be a problem. Most all buffets have an age requirement for getting food without supervision, and around here they enforce it. Having worked at one, the utensils are changed regularly, and if you see something like someone putting food back, bring it to management's attention.

Illegal. Not with the price of food these days. I used to take my 3 sons to a restaurant to eat and they served such a small portion for a big price, we left and had to buy the boys a snack because they were still hungry. I love buffets to fill up hungry growing boys. If you over eat it's your own problem.

It is the choice of the person whether or not to go to all you can eat buffets. But I think that they should only have the salad bar or fruit bar be all you can eat. That is more healthier. That way the person can get full and eat healthy at the same time. But people today love the money that comes in and will not change their restaurants.

You know, not everyone who goes to a buffet sees it as a challenge to eat enormous quantities of food...and if you go someplace like a Ruby Tuesday's, for example, their burgers are 1/2 pound! Nobody on earth needs to eat a half pound of meat plus other items at one sitting...anyway, what would be next in your plan, restrict how much a person could buy at the grocery store-give them a weekly allotment? Isn't this the USA? Don't we want ANY freedoms here?

Educating people about nutrition would be more effective.
AYCE places just provide an all inclusive price for eating, and all-inclusive is a current trend (just check tourism). The problem comes not from the prestation itself, but from the fact that people want so bad to get the most of it they overeat... a similar result might be obtained with sufficiently cheap pricing of menus, or with huge enough helpings.

Most buffets offer a wide variety of good, healthy food choices. Yes, some people tend to 'pig out', but I think before these establishments are deemed dangerous to our health, perhaps we should consider making most of the fast-food restaurants illegal. They're the ones that serve up unhealthy foods, always want to "super size" your soda, and offer few - if any - choices that are consistent with a healthy diet.
At least at an all-you-can-eat buffet, you usually have a choice of fresh vegetables and fruits, meats cooked in something besides grease, and beverages such as tea or milk instead of Coke and Pepsi.
If you're going to outlaw all-you-can-eat buffets, they it stands to reason that you'd also want to outlaw snack manufacturers who sell "giant economy size" bags of potato chips or pork rinds; they know that people will buy the "large size" packages in the belief that they're saving money. The reality (that all snack food manufacturers know) is that we'll eat that "giant" bag of chips as quickly as we'd eat a "regular" bag of chips. -RKO-

No. The people who work at those places will lose there jobs. The owner at Pizza Ranch in Primghar,IA told a woman who coughs on the food to not cough and she hasn't been back since. So there are buffet places that are sanitary.
