The question I have to ask is - why would you want to live there anyway under those conditions? I would definately get a hold of the housing authority & get yourselves out of that house. I would have his house declared a health hazzard which will make it impossible for him to rent it to anyone else or sell it until the repairs are made - but - that means that you can't live there either.

This sounds like a legal issue. Call your rent control authority, or housing authority. It should be posted in thephone book. These conditions are not healthy. Leaks contribute to mould growth, which can make you and your family very sick. Asthma, allergies, headaches, nausea, and rashes are not unheard of.

As for electrical, and heat, that is a fire hazard, as well as health when it comes to the winter coming.

Either get after his sorry backside, or leave for the sake of your families health. This place sounds like it needs major repairs, and with a deadbeat landlord, I wish you luck. Legal action is likely your only other option.

you don't say what state you live. There should be a state agency that governs rentals, contact them for more information. Chances are your lease states that you must pay the rent, and any repairs are a different issue but should be covered in your lease.

I suggest that you go to the local JP and talk to him. Maybe get some of your money back.
