he wasn't sure what it was until the breakouts became numerous. what should he do? what treatment is there (freezing,home remedies)?

Your "friend" should go see a doctor - this is a very contagious virus that can not be gotten rid of.

He should see a urologist and have them surgically removed.
Genital warts are contagious being caused by HPV virus and may be transmitted through unprotected sex.

It's bad news for your friend - it's herpes an incurable disease
of the worse kind! Sexually transmitted diseases, like herpes,
syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia etc are the main types which
most people are inflicted through unprotected sex.
I suggest both of you should see a STD specialist quickly to
confirm the disease which your friend had.

the best thing to do is have him go to the doctors they will probably burn or freeze them off then he will have to have a checkup to make sure they dont come back

go to the doc, they'll probably freeze. there are some topical medications available
