The short answer is that you will likely not find any better information than your hunch. You may be able to narrow it to their internet provider (using the techniques mentioned above), but you're not likely going to be able to track it to an individual.

Just print out the offending materials so you have it available should you go into some sort of legal proceeding. The person *could* deny it, but if you have other supporting circumstantial evidence it may be sufficient.

You can't trace the IP address to a person without a warrant to make the ISP give out information on the person who used the IP address. However you can trace to who owns the IP address which is the ISP that he uses by going to a whois site like http://ws.arin.net/whois .

But the above would still require you to know the IP address in the email that was sent to you which is usally changed about 3 times via the differnt jumps a email makes. It would usally be the first IP address that was listed in the headers of the email. You sometimes have to turn on the headers option in most email clients to view the headers.

If you know what ISP he uses. You check the email IP address and see if it matches the ISP of that person you think it is. And if it matches then you can be pretty sure that is them. In which case you can go baseball bat their car or blow thier mailbox.

Search the whois database. It's unlikely that the IP address is static so you'll get the details of the ISP that's hosting it, there will be a contact email address listed to assist you.

You can find out who owns the IP by using a who-is service. The link provided by the first answerer is a good one. If you want to get really geeky you can use the tracert command to find out the path that packets take to get to that IP.

I use this link to lookup, you can also do a search for reverse lookup which will tell you who owns the ip address.
