have endometriosis. I live in the state of Ohio, and the government seems to think that being paid $6.50 an hour is too much to be put on insurance. The job I have now doesn't offer it. I have lost quite a few jobs due to me not being able to preform and me not being able to show up on the days my pain is most servere. I started my period this morning, and it is by far the worst I have ever had. I had to call into work, and my boss told me to start looking for another job. I've only been employed there since late august. Can I collect unemployment? If not, what can I do? It took me a year to find this job because of what my resume looks like. I need answers asap. Please help me.

I have given up working altogether for the time being. I am blessed enough to have a husband with an good enough income to support me while I'm sick. I have had to quit jobs or have been fired from jobs for the past 6 years due to this condition. People just don't really seem to understand it's severity. It's sooo depressing. I am actually afraid of my period. My life revolves around my cycle. If friends want to plan parties or outings, I have to check my calendar to see if I am going to be on my cycle. I do not have long lasting cycles but I suffer from pain before, during and after my cycle. The pain and other side effects of endometriosis ar enought o drive a sane person MAD!! I am so sad for you because I know exactly what you are going through. We have got to do something about this. There needs to be some sort or organization to help people understand how severe these symptoms can be. Maybe you can print out some literature about endometriosis along with a letter from your doctor explaining your symptoms. My last job allowed up to 5 days off for me per month because I showed them proof of my condition.

In spite of what the person above me stated the EEOC has a clear script on 8 to 10 categories of what the discrimination actually has to be! But remember this is another worthless government organization that WILL waste your time verses effectively doing anything to truly help you!

Sounds like you were fired, so I believe unemployment is an option. I am unfamiliar with Ohio state law, so you may wish to speak with an attorney. You could jazz up your resume: use a thesaurus for impressive words; copy a friend's format (if the friend got a good job with the reume) and supplement it with a killer cover letter. For future reference, when and if you are confronted with your illness again at work, file a discrimination complaint with the EEOC. Thereafter, any adverse employment reactions (demoted, suspended or fired) you could argue as retaliation for your filing a charge with the EEOC. Good luck.
