A Beta version of a program is th stage just before it's release. It works and is complete, but still needs to be used in real situations to find all the bugs.

A Beta Tester tries out these pre-release versions of software, and reports bugs. Beta Testers usually get the software for free in trade.

A 'beta tester' is someone who will try out some new software and rate it's performance before it is officially released. Some folks like to do this, but using potentially 'buggy' software never appealed to me.

These are people that "test" products, like video games to check for any "bugs" in the game and even to see what it takes to crash the game. sounds fun huh?
