One of my favorite sad songs is by The Escape Club and is called "I'll Be There".
(You may recall the Escape Club had a hit in the 80s with the song "Wild Wild West" as well....)
My best friend in high school used to tell me that when she died, she wanted it played at her funeral. "I'll Be There" is an absolutely beautiful song, but if you listen to the lyrics, it's REALLY touching, and very sad.
BTW - My best friend is very much alive and well, thank goodness! :-) Just something I remember her mentioning every time we'd hear the song....:o)
