I don't watch CNN. I'm not scared of the government or any other country. I'm just curious as to what the rest of the world thinks of the current situation.

North Korean does not have the missile capability to attack us. The magic number for them is Seoul. However, if they attack, the treaties kick in and we are in for WWIII.

My thinking, much like Pakistan and India (does anyone remember that the USSR gave India the bomb?), that North Korea will just sit on their stockpile. Also understand the test was on a one kiloton device, which leads me to believe they do not have a great deal of fissionable material.

Are they just full of hot air, who knows? I suggest reading last month's Atlantic Monthly. Kim Il Jong was on the cover and it was interesting reading.

As for right now, things are fine. The Middle East is where it will blow up.

N Korea will not use its nuke in the next few years. Their delivery system isn't ready. Besides that, N Korea does not have the ideological or popular momentum to carry out an expansionist policy. They are not in a shooting war now.
However, the world is facing a global crisis which will come to a head within a decade or two. The primary impetus for this crisis is Islamist expansionism. (I am not talking abour Islam as a religion, but Islamism as a political movement; they must be distinguished.)
N Korea obviously will not be at the center of this conflict, but it can certainly be a player. Will N Korea side with the Islamists or with the West, or will it stay out of the conflict? That is the question.

No. North Korea is just puffing its chest and showing the U.S.A. that it could defend itself against a U.S. invasion.
The U.S. is the only country that has used weapons of mass destruction to annihilate citizens of another country. Like many other nations today, North Korea probably believes its only defense against the world's newest 'evil empire' - the United States of America - is to have its own arsenal of nuclear weaponry. The world hates a bully, and George W. Bush is the world's biggest bully. No wonder America is so despised these days! -RKO-

No, I think you are watching too much CNN. Turn off the TV. Our gov't wants you scared, that's why they are blowing this all out of proportion. The US has the largest military in the world with enough firepower to blow North Korea into a wasteland. Think about this realistically. Do you honestly think they would take on the US? The govt' wants you scared so they can justify whatever it is they have planned next. A scared country will allow them to do whatever they want as far as foreign policy. SIt back and watch it happen.

I don't think they will. They don't have the money, and although they could do a terrific amount of damage with their nuclear weapons, I think they understand that using them would be suicide. As one writer put it, we'd turn Pyongyang into a "glass parking lot" if they did.

Kim Jong Mentally-Ill is playing a rather crude game of brinksmanship. He's seen fellows like Khrushchev play a good hand in the 1960s and, because he's incredibly vain, thinks he can do it better. Few are impressed with his game, although understandably the citizenry of Seoul are not anxious to be the ones to call his bluff.

Bush is handling this the best. The president senses that this is the wrong time to call Kim's bluff. Stay calm, and he'll probably be forced to fold his hand soon enough because of the breathtaking incompetence of his Communist regime. Look for him to be toppled in a coup very soon.

They can attack, if they do, they will most likely hit Japan ( Japan and Korea don't like each other ) and we have a good number of Military bases in Japan. And the bases are almost always on full alert... so they kinda figure somethings up. And if Japan does get attacked, the U.S will support Japan... most likely.

I personally think that the leader should be looked at as being crazy,u know like Hitler etc. What ever happened to the concept that no weapon of mass destruction could be lounged without a 12 party vote, did I just dream that????? Who says an authority figure cant have mental problems??????

I agree with one of the earlier answers. Although the North Korean situation is tense, it is not about to come to a head. Not anytime soon anyway. The major threat, and greatest challenge is the middle east. It's an absolute disaster over there, and we are unfortunately deaply involved.

I don't know if Kimmy Boy is crazy or not....
But I sense that the feeling security we had on this planet is gone.
Is it worth worrying about, I don't think so.
The US is soooooooo highly wound up now it is sad. I feel for the Americans, and hope that with a new President that the feeling of the good 'ol American Pie USA can be returned.

They certainly won't attack China. Nuclear weapons are mostly for intimidation; a way of getting respect.
