I found it a difficult few days after surgery. You will have the worst sore throat you have ever had. You can't swallow or eat much. You will be extremely grouchy. However in a few days your throat will start to heal and you will feel better. I wore ice packs around my throat and sipped lukewarm broth. My sinuses went nuts and over produced so much mucus and that made things worse. This was the year 1970 I am sure they have improved the surgery since then. My tonsils were rooted in the entire length and they cauterized the area where the tonsils were rooted so I had large burns in my throat. It was awfull! Hopefully for you it will be a quick snip and lots of ice cream. Not everyone has the rough time I did. Don't be scared ask the doctor lots of questions. I wish you well!!! Let me know how you get by.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 20. I am not going to lie to you -- it is very painful. You will have a sore throat for several days afterward. You'll be eating ice cream and jello and stuff that is easy to swallow.

I remember being in the pediatrics area of the hospital afterwards because that is a procedure that is usually done on kids. I hated that part because kids were crying all the time and the "play lady" would stop by and give me a corn-cob man she had made for me. I am not joking. It sucked.

The good news is that the sore throats that I used to routinely have that were major deals -- I no longer get because my tonsils are gone. It is better later.

Good luck.

I had my tonsils out when I was 15. The only advice I have is don't get too nervous, it's not worth it. When I went under I was so scared, when I woke up, it felt like hours later but in reality only a 1/2 hour had passed. It's over before you know it and I felt much better after about a week and now hardly ever get a sore throat.

Yes I am a female and had my tonsils out at age 27....it is much harder on an adult but just give it time and it will be fine. I lost 27 lbs. in 3 weeks due to the fact that I could not swollow my food so maybe good advise is puddings and jello at first. Good luck and let me know how your doing. Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

I was 16 when i had mine out I'm 19 now so i remember well. DONT EAT ANY MILK THE FIRST 24 HOURS this includes ice cream you will throw up. and also if you throw up blood go to the hospital i broke a stick and this happened the blood looked like jello almost. but other then that lots of soft foods and make sure you take all the medicines they give you to avoid infection. also the first few days try not tot talk since it will hurt and you voice sounds horse. Drink alot of fluid but not soda or any acid things like orange juice it will burn Now a days its a in out surgery so as soon as you finish there jello and there cup of water you can go home. I also lost about 15 lbs do to not eating solid foods and you will have a little swelling

I am 23 and I had it done a year ago. I know I am not your age but the doctors called me an adult. They said the procedure is much tougher when your older. I was on the couch for almost 2 weeks straight. I am in shape and healthy and it toke 2 weeks for me to get back to normal. At first, it isnt bad. I was surprised. I woke up after surgery, swallowed and was like "it doesnt hurt" but give it a few days and when it starts to heal up and scab over, it really sucks. There were 2 days in there where I couldnt eat anything it hurt so bad. By the time I could eat, toward the end of the recovery I was so low on energy all I wanted to do was lay down. It may sound bad, but trust me, its worth it. Since then I have not been sick and feel so much better. Get them out, the few days of intense pain is worth it. My cousin who is your age had his out, at your age and described it just like mine, so there shouldnt be much difference with you. Hope that helps.

I was 16 does that count? I am sooo happy I got it done I'm now 30 and have had like 2 sore throats since then, it took about a week to feel better, then after that I didnt have any problems. Have you ever had surgery before, if you have it is no differnet than that (as far as going under and waking up). I think you will be happy you did.
