hey hun, I have a social anxiety disorder/panic disorder. The last couple of months I've been on a medication called citalopram which is an SSRI, which basically means it stops the brain from re-absorbing the seretonin (the happy hormone) too quickly, but the point i wanted to make is that it's been really helpful, I don't know what you've gone through but my anxiety has been caused by a long term illness which isn't anything serious but I began to believe every time i left the house I would be ill so I stopped, it took all my will just to go to work which is where I had to finally admit i was suffering from some kind of deppression when I turned up 15minutes late, sobbing because I didn't want to leave the house. I saw my doctor and told him I'd had enough and that the hatred i'd started to have for my useless body had led me to take a razorblade to my hips and places that were covered by clothing, I no longer saw my friends or family, my relationship was suffering because we could never go anywhere and I thought I was on the brink of losing my job which I need to pay off debts and I felt like a selfish cow for feeling this way. There's no easy answer , they offered me CBT which is of form of training to deal with the things that make you anxious and I would recommend trying it even though it did little for myself, everybodys anxieties are individual. Medication isn't the be all and end all either, my situation has vastly improved but I still can't eat during the working day for fear of being ill and having to take time off, I've got as far as about half an hours journey as far as travelling concerned but I don't eat before that either. The tablets have been good for the general feeling of overwhelming sadness and anxiety that I used to get upon waking but I still have routines that i believe help me get through the day. How are you dealing with your depression?

I've been suffering from depression since I was diagnosed at 12 years old. I am now 44.
Some days are hard and some days are easy. You have to remember that it will pass otherwise you could make yourself worse than you are.
What I try to do is remember that there are people out there that are way worse than I am. Whether it's physically or mentally, things could be worse. The good thing is that you KNOW what is wrong and hopefully you've got yourself on something that will help you.
You don't mention any medication but today there are some pretty good medicines that work.
I didn't really know how to deal with myself for quite a while. Being a woman doesn't help either because there's always the mood swings and the period that seems to make everything so much worse.
I exercise and read a lot when I'm feeling down, other times if things are real bad I cry or I just sleep. Any you know what? I don't let myself feel guilty about doing those things. I try not to beat myself up over it either. Just remind yourself that you won't always feel this way and that it will pass. It usually does. If you'd like to e-mail me when ever, then please feel free to do so. It might help to be able to talk with someone when you're down.
Hope everything is okay. Try to take one day at a time and just pace yourself.

I find that often Anxiety is treated with medication that can induce or precipitate depression. If you have social anxiety with depression, it is best practice to treat the depression first with a tricyclic anti-depressant, In all likelihood the depression and anxiety will lift without the use of anxiolytic compounds like Xanax.

See a good psychiatrist. Not your general doctor.

My family is full of depression. I do get depression sometimes, at least that's what I think it is. Sometimes the best thing is to talk with someone about the things bothering you and don't feel bad about crying it out. Relieving some of the stuff locked inside will help and always remember It's going to get better. It may get worse before it gets better but It will get better, trust me.

You probably just don't know that some of the people you do know are on antidepressants and anti anxiety medication. I have been on antidepressants for years and sometimes take anti anxiety medication. I expect to be on some kind of medication for life. I've been on many antidepressants and some work awhile and then don't and I have to try something else.
