A rabid dog theatens the life of my family. Those who have the responsibility of protecting them would like to meet this threat by kill the dog with the best weapons he has available for the task, considering the location of the dog, and the threat that it provides.
There are some animal activist that sympathize with the dog. It isn't the dogs fault that he has rabies. It is an uneven playing field. What we should do is get down on our hands and knees and bite the dog, so that we are on the same level and the odds would be even.
Grow up. American values, and Christian values, are considered weak in some cultures. It is much easier to manipulate someone that feels empathy. I can tell by your question that you have successfully been manipulated.
In theory, we should all be nice, play well together, and work for the benifit of all. In practice, there is evil in this world that are after their own interest and not what is best for the whole. They play by different rules. In a fair fight, there would not be a fight because the common goal would be to do what was right. In an unfair fight, you do what is needed to win.
Go over there and talk with them. I'm sure you can single handedly talk them out of suicide bombs and teaching hate and intollerance. I am also sure that all the innocent victims and their families agree with you that we should take a passive stance and let this continue. We all know there is not enough grief in the world to go around and we need to make sure that everyone gets a piece.
Jesus died on the cross and sacrificed himself for his cause. He did not force anyone else to die with him. If you have a better solution to prevent lunitics from killing innocent people out of intollerance because their beliefs do not allow independent though, then share it with us.
If you can come up with a better way to solve the problem, people will listen. Whining about does not do anyone any good. Any a**hole can make noise under distress.

I guess it depends on what one considers "gruesome" and "brutalized," doesn't it? I always thought that prison meant bread and water, but it appears that the terrorists in Guantanamo Bay have air conditioning, better food than they ever got in Tora Bora, and even their own copies of the Koran.
The worst examples of "brutalization" I ever heard coming out of there was that the Marines prevented some from committing suicide. Shame on us!
I'm sure that a lot of the terrorists feel themselves hard done because their ability to kill Americans has been curbed, but what can I say? They want death. We like life.

The people that stand to be tortured have never been convicted of Terrorism. They are just like you and me. In todays frame this sounds almost reasonable. But some day we'll be beyond this crisis and this violation of our freedom won't disappear. We need to stand up and be Americans now or we may not able able to do so without being rounded up and tortured tomorrow.
