I was born that year so I don't remember it, but I would like to hear first hand accounts from people who remember that year. What were the current events you remember, what were the styles and fads?, how old were you then?

13, and punk was fading, New Romanticism was budding, with weird hairdos, men in makeup, fancy clothes, etc. Bands like Squeeze were riding high in the charts, and electro was getting plugged in. Very exciting time, the first woman Prime Minister had just been elected, everyone was hopeful for the 80s, though by 1982 we had all become disenfranchised and cycnical.
It was a realIy great year.

I was 14yrs old...
it was a hell of alot better than it is now....there wasn't as much violence.....
it's really funny because if you watch billy madison with adam sandler...the part when he goes back to high school and he's wearing a flannel shirt over a concert shirt and it's tucked in just in the front so you can see his cool belt buckle...thats how we really used to dress...LOLOLOL...
van halen, pink floyd, cheap trick and kiss were some of the most popular rock bands...
pet rocks and mood rings were big fads back then.....
it was a really cool time...sometimes i miss those times but ido enjoy the modern technology.

I was 17. The clothes were terrible. As was the feathered hair. It was rare for men & women to live together. I know this as I moved in w/my boyfriend and we only knew one other couple that "lived in sin". I seem to remember thinking that Bush Sr. or Reagan were stepping perilously close to nuclear war with USSR and it felt like it does now with the Korea issue.

I turned 2 in August of 1979... I was highly interested in learning how to go potty in the big girl potty, watch sesame street and the Muppet's, and bite my older sisters (oh yes, I was a biter).
