going into accounting, working for the IRS one semester and attending school the other semester? Do you know of any university's in the US that have a coop program for accounting?

In general, co-op programs are common across all majors. Some schools actually require a co-op and it is included as a part of the semester or trimester schedule. In general, if a school doesn't specifically incorporate co-op programs, it's easiest to do a summer internship instead. But if you need to take time off for a co-op, that should be fine virtually anywhere, since students take a semester or two off all the time for whatever reason they want. You may need to wait an entire extra year to graduate due to course schedules, but that's the only major drawback I can think of.
