My top five?

Hmmmm... I guess that would include:

Robotech - sci-fi epic
Martian Successor Nadesico - tongue-in-cheek comedy
Justice League Unlimited - some really excellent writing
Batman the animated series (NOT to be confused with that god-awful new version put out by the Kids WB) award winning writing
Batman Beyond - same as above

Naruto, this is about a boy who trains to be a ninja and has a demon in him so he is considered an outcast. This anime has excellent fight scenes and pretty good dialogue.

Dragon Ball, this has a good amount of comedy and action and has a good story line. The battle scenes are the best and are intense too.

Dragon Ball Z, This is a step up from Dragon Ball in the fighting catagory but the comedy is very low and even if there is any its nothing special.

Gundam, This is excellent in the fight scenes because you could probably imagine yourself strapped into a gundam and beating up the zeons. Also the futuristic story line makes for a better cartoon.

Teen Titans, This may be a kid show but its a very well made show. There is subtle drama but enough to keep the story going and plenty of comedy. But when the fight scenes pop open watch out because they are worth watching. (also I like raven)

1. Ghost in the Shell - Possibly the best animated and most interesting anime series ever made.

2. Cowboy Bebop - I have yet to meet a single person who has not enjoyed this series.

3. Avatar: The Last Airbender - The only american made anime that actually looks like anime, feels like anime, and pretty much competes with anime.

4. FLCL - 6 Episodes of the funniest crap you will ever see.

5. Fullmetal Alchemist - Ingenuity and originality at it's best.

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki - I like all the Tenchi series but this OVA is the one that started it all! The first two OVA were distributed by Pioneer/Geneon, and the third one is currently being handled by FUNimation.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - I like this series which, along with Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, is a 'must-have' for any anime collection. At first, this TV starts out as your typical mecha-anime, but then it gets complicated and psycological at the end. The characters are very complex and engaging.

Azumanga Daioh - This is another 'must-have'. Hardly any violence, this TV anime centers on six girls in a Japanese high school (and their teachers) as they go through life from first classes to graduation.

Gunsmith Cats - This OVA anime, set in Chicago, Illinois, has as a hero Rally Vincent, a gun-toting bounty hunter, and "Minnie" May Hopkins, her grenade-throwing partner. Together, the two try to keep the Windy City safe from a ring of deadly gun-runners.

Dirty Pair Flash - An alternate telling of the classic Dirty Pair anime, this OVA series centers on two trouble consultants, Kei and Yuri, as they catch criminal all over the galaxy... while destroying everything in their way in their wake... but it's not their fault!

In no particular order:

1. Gankutsuo : Count of Monte Cristo - This futurisic take on the classic revenge story features amazingly drawn characters, trippy clothes and backgrounds and sounds good in both English and Japanese.

2. Saiyuki - A gun-toting monk and three demons head west to stop the evil encroaching Shangri-la. Full of action and (often crude) humor, it is now in its 3rd incarnation [original, Saiyuki: Reload, Reload Gunlock].

3. Fruits Basket - Tohru Honda is a high school girl just struggling to live on her own following the death of her mother. When she crashes into the Sohma house and learns of their family's curse, she must try to keep the curse a secret.

4. Heat Guy J - A street-smart agent and his android partner work to detect crimes before they happen. Style-wise, this show is like Cowboy Bebop, but with killer androids and sibling rivalry.

5. Last Exile - A well-crafted combination of CG and traditional animation, this is the story of Claus Valca and his friend Lavie aboard the mercenary ship Silvarna as well as their relationship with the mysterious Captain Alex Row and the Grand Stream.

1. Fullmetal Alchimest: two brothers learn the art of alchemy and try to bring their mother back to life, with horrible results. The series involves them trying to gain what was lost.

2. Hellsing: The Hellsing Organization works to destroy freaks (humans implanted with a microchip that turns them into flesh-eating gouls). FYI - Alucard (Dracula backwards) works for Hellsing because Integra Hellsing is his master.

3. Ghost in the Shell. I actually like both movies and both series. This one is kinda hard to explain: the story focuses on Major Motoko Kusanagi...who leads Section 9. She has a cybernetic body, with very little of her physical, human self left. And she has her ghost (soul).

4. Neon Genesis Evangelion: A being called an Angel, named Adam, was discovered in Antarctica. Something happened and the Second Impact occurred (Earth tilted on its axis). 20 years later, Angels begin attacking again and EVAs are the only ones that can stop them. EVAs were created by man and are machines piloted by 14-year old children that sync with the machine.

5. Tenchi Universe: There is quite an extensive Tenchi Muyo franchise but this one is my favorite. The story of Tenchi and his household of women, which include Ryoko the space pirate and Aeka, a Jubai princess. By the way, Ryoko and Ayeka both love Tenchi and always fight over him.

1. Black Cat

Cronos is an organization that held enormous political power. Train Heartnet is an assasin of Chronos and lived a "hollow" life. An incident with a sweeper made him leave the organization he served for so long, and instead, lived as a sweeper (bounty hunters). With an inventer and a girl churned from technology, the threesome carried on their profession as sweepers. That is, as conflict with Cronos, Train, and a prevoius aqquintance made things worse. 26 episodes if memory serves.

2. Hunter x Hunter
Hunters are after many things; jewelry, information, bounty, animals, knowledge, and so on. Hunters are highly respected, and 12-year-old Gon Freacks is aspired to become one as a minor family conflict set him away from his father. Adventure series, the manga its based on has yet to have an actual ending...

3. Karin
A cute romance between a normal boy, and an abnormal vampire.

4.Naruto
lol. I hate it, but I like it.

5. Kino no Tabi
A ten-episode chronicle about a traveler and her thoughts.
