It means "another one dies". If you are in a war situation and shoot an enemy soldier,he falls to the ground and thus "bites the dust". This expression may also be used in the sporting world, but more figuratively : If a cricketer is bowled out,the opposition may say that he has "bitten the dust".

Literally, a person has died. It is a variation on an old tradition where it is bad luck to tempt the evil eye by directly saying "someone has died." Rather than say "I wish you would die," they would say "I wish you grew like an onion - with your head in the ground and your legs in the air." The only way this could come to pass is if the person is dead, and in like manner, the only way a person could be "biting dust" is if they are face-down in it.

You're not saying what you mean, as much as you mean what you are saying.

Incredible as it seems the phrase dates all the way back to Homer's Iliad. Numerous times when one person or another died, "...the ground rose to meet him, and he bit the dust."

It means "Punish me" as in "O, I did a bad thing so punish me" but it is always used in a sarcastic manner. And it is rude cuz a dog usually bites so basically ur calling that person a dog or to a girl a *****.
