There is a fantastic coffee shop on the red light district called the GreenHouse, it's one of the best. Tell your mate not to worry, the ladies of the red light district are experienced and are used to shy guys, they will know what to do to settle his nerves and he'll have a great time!

The most well known is The Bulldog. The Rokerij is said to be good. The Tweede Kamer also. Have fun.

The red light district is nothing to be shy of, do not go to the bananabar. That and other bars are only trying to rip you off. Esp when you are shy. Just walk around and see the sights.

Find a coffee shop wth a dark green exterior, and neon green palm trees outside, they do the best. Its near the redlight district. You have to walk over a brigde first and it will be right in front of you.

The "coffee shops" you are after are everywhere. With regard to the Redlight District - don't think your "mate" has to be shy - just keep him away from the lady boys.

There are a lot of great coffee shops all catering for different tastes - barneys is a great place to start in the morning for a great breakfast that sets you up for the rest of the day. Click onto the following link as this is the coffeeshop directory that we always use before we go to Amsterdam. You can also print a map with all the coffeeshops marked enjoy I wish I was coming with you - lol.

The coffee shops where it is legal to 'smoke' have a sticker in the window made up of 2 triangles in green and white, once inside all the coffee shops are pretty much the same, Ive been in most of them! Paradise in dam square was my favourite!

Abraxas is GREAT, a really welcoming atmosphere, freindly staff and a really unusual setting. Upstairs part of the floor is glass, so you can see whats going on downstairs!

Have a look at the following link for the location, the website also has links to loads of other coffeeshops.

Abraxas also have their own website that details their DJ nights, and has a virtual tour so you can see the unusual decoration instore.
