well i have had 4 children and everytime i gave birth, i had an episiotomy. what you are experiencing right now is just normal. it really stings whenever you pee cuz its still a fresh wound. whats important is to keep the area clean so it does not get infected. I used betadine to clean the area once in the morning and once before I go to bed. Heres one tip that would really make you feel great and also helps to heal the wound fast. Take a lamp shade, the one that is shaped like a trumpet or anything to that effect. Lie down, place the lampshade under the blankets and face it towards your genital area, light it up and relax. The heat should make you very comfortable and it helps dry up the wound so that it heals faster. Try doing this after cleaning your wound in the morning. Use a light bulb, not the flourescent type. Hope this helps.

Sounds like this is all normal. I felt exactly the same way - ouch. Then couple that with the painful boobies.......

I tried sitting on a packet of frozen peas wrapped in a towel which helped and I also bought an inflatable toilet seat cover from Boots to sit on when on the sofa or hard chair which was really comfy. I suppose you could also use a rubber ring but that would be a bit slippy!

If you're still worried, speak to the health visitor about it.

Do your pelvic floor exercises to tone things up internally. Burning to pee probably means you have cystitis - if there's blood in your urine see your doctor. Otherwise, I was told to pee then wash with water eg a jug poured over the site. Try sitting gently in warm salty water to help it heal. If it's any consolation, I still have problems 6 years later. If it was only a few stitches, don't worry it'll heal up. Don't forget you've just had a baby so it's bound to be sore, and the muscles have had a good work out so you'll get afterpains when you breastfeed as the uterus contracts back to it's original size. Good luck!!!

Witch hazel pads where my savior! I had a very large episiotomy, and everything hurt... walking, sitting, peeing, pooping. The witch hazel pads kept it cool and soothed. It was still uncomfortable, but didn't hurt.

I also used an aniseptic numbing spray for the first two weeks, at the suggestion of my nurse. That helped too. The only thing is you have to be careful when buying one because some are too strong for that area. mine was a blue bottle (but the red bottle of the same brand said not to use it in that area)

I would keep an eye out on it, it's possible you have a urinary tract infection.

Although, I remember being in quite a bit of pain while urinating after pregnancy, I don't think it had to do with the episiotomy so much as the catheter they put in me.

As with any medical concern, call your doctor if you have any worries just to make sure you're OK. You should be going in for a check up in a week anyway right?

I gave birth to my son on Sept. 29, 2006 and had an episiotomy as well. My doctor had me taking a Sitz bath 3 times a day for two weeks and had me apply hemorrhoidal ointment (thankfully never had any hemorrhoids, but I was given Dibucaine Ointment, which you can get at Wal-Mart) to the area of my stitches, it keeps them from drying up and hurting. My stitches didn't hurt or pull unless they became dry. I also used the water bottle everytime I used the restroom to help out as well. My stitches were gone within two weeks.

Hi there. I think the dragging feeling you explain is pretty common after delivery. I remember on day three running across a road and being shocked at how loose and wobbly my bits felt!
I had a third degree tear and the plastic surgeon had to sew me up so was very sore for long time plus my poor clit was grazed too. You're obviously doing well keeping it clean and healing well. Try not to worry but give yourself a few weeks before expecting to be completely comfortable.

I had an episiotomy as well - it hurt like the dickens!! It hurt to sit, to walk, to MOVE for just about 2 wks I think. I dont even know how many stitches it was, but my husband said it was quite a few.
You know to keep it clean by pouring water and blowing it dry with a hairdryer (not using toilet paper), right? I was told that's all I could do for it. I read in a book a warm bath is nice for an episiotomy, but then my Dr told me a couldnt have a bath for a mth, not until my uterus shrunk back to reg. size...

When I gave birth the hospital gave me a squeeze bottle that I would fill up with water and when I would pee I would squeeze the water down there at the same time. It's the amonia(?) that's causing the stinging. You will still have a slight irritaion until it's healed completely. If you're really concerened you could always call your doctor.
