I'd like to know when someone sends me an instant message (IM) when I'm away from my computer, or out and about. Then I can find an internet cafe or get back to my computer quickly. I miss a lot of international IM's because I'm not always tied to my computer, only to come back and find friends have been trying to contact me. I'm not looking for alternative solutions, just sms (text) notification.

I have always used Yahoo messenger on my phone. You can try going to Yahoo alerts Pick Yahoo! Autos Custom: Gallery. Pick add mobile device. And customize the alert. Or try the first link as it mentions and I quote.
"See what else is available for your phone.
Tell us more about your phone, and we'll let you know what Yahoo! Mobile services are waiting for you."

The easiest thing to do would be to download the yahoo messenger program on your phone. Some of them come with it, but if yours doesn't have it and you have an internet browser, you could download the program from there. Or maybe you can just call your cell phone provider and ask them if you can install the program on your phone, it's probably not a difficult thing to do. Otherwise, I don't think yahoo messenger has a forwarding option.
