Their is no need to excuse your ignorance, this is not something you are born knowing.
Murphy's Law is basically an expression symbolizing that whatever is being done, will inhibit bad luck. So when something goes bad it attributed to Murphy's Law for example:
*If thier is more than one person at fault no one will be accountable
*If your doing repair work on your car , your screw driver will fall directly in the middle of the car.
*If everything is bugfree, you have obviously forgotten the biggest flaw.
*Thier is no such thing as fool proof , fools are ingenious.
The list goes on , but it follows a very common pattern which can be summarized in one phrase "If it can go wrong , it will". Thus Murphy's Law is defined by bad luck... I should know, I have a poster of it on my wall!

It is what happened to the Arizona Cardinals last night, it is having Kings wired at hold em and an Ace shows up on the flop, it is winning the lottery and finding out it was rigged, your significant other has STD, your company drops its pension and benefit plan, George Bush gets elected, we stay in Iraq, your son gets a call from Congressman Foley, your daughter gets a call from Ted Kennedy, you get a call from the IRS, your dog dies and your cat lives, you are over 50 and discover you have acne, your hair falls out again, Joan Rivers starts to look good, Paris Hilton is a decent human being. You should by now get the gist of what Murphy's Law is, IF IT CAN GO WRONG, IT WILL !!!!

Murphy's law is a popular adage in Western culture that most likely originated at Edwards Air Force Base in 1948. The Law broadly states that things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance. "If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way." It is most often cited as "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" (or, alternately, "Anything that can go wrong, will").
Murphy's Law is sometimes confused with Finagle's Corollary, which is also known as Sod's law.
Per the 1948 theory, in American culture the law was named somewhat sarcastically by Stapp's Team working on Project MX981 at Edwards Air Force Base after Major Edward A. Murphy, Jr., a development engineer contributing support measurement technology for a brief time on rocket sled experiments done by the United States Air Force in 1948 with inveterate adage collector and the law's undoubted populizer Doctor/Colonel John Paul Stapp, a former next-door neighbor and friend of Murphy.
The most detailed examination of the origins of the Law is the book A History of Murphy's Law by author Nick T. Spark. Spark concludes that differing recollections years later by various participants make it impossible to pinpoint who exactly coined the phrase. The Law supposedly stems from an attempt to use new measurement devices developed by the eponymous Edward Murphy, and was coined in adverse reaction to something Murphy said when his devices failed to perform and eventually cast into its present form prior to a press conference some months later, the first ever (of many) given by Colonel Stapp, The fastest man on earth.

Not a real "law", but an expression. If someone has a series of misfortunes, they say it must be Murphy's Law. It basically says that if something CAN go wrong, it WILL.

If you think it won't happen, it'll happen.. If it's planned to perfection, something will mess it up! lol It did I think come from a movie originally. But basically murphy's law means as someone said if it can go wrong, or different than expected, it will.
