Melaleuca. It is Australian. It was used by ancient Aborigines. It has a healing agent from the oil. There is a long line of products that are sold in the US. But they are distributed like Amway or Mary Kay. I have used many of the products and they are wonderful.

Im not sure if you can purchase the tree and plant it. But I do know of what you are talking about and the oil can be used for cleaning and medicine. Google " Melaleuca" I am sure they have a website.

The tree is spelled: melaleuca. It's an Australian native. It has some larger varieties which are called paperbarks, and smaller varieties called honey myrtles. For a detailed description there's a Wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melaleuca

Please note the link ("problem in the USA") at the bottom of Pierre D's wikepedia site that indicates this plant is an invasive problem in the US. Evidently, it can store up to 20 million seeds a year and will release them if treated with an herbicide!
