Glad you asked.
Main reason this happens is no discipline given to the child. It's a common thing that continually goes on because of the interferance by those who don't know what they're talking about in the first place. Because of some abuse that was going on some years back spanking of children at home and corporal punishment in schools were out-lawed. A good spanking once in a while never hurt a kid to straighten them out and teachers knew the limits on corporal punishment. Those idiots figured that by expelling children from school would be a perfect method to scare them into going to school. What a bunch of Bull. The kids love it these days because then they can lay around watching TV, play their lil electronic games or sit on the computers and do what ever they please. Now it's such a mess that no one (parents) will get on a band wagon and force the situation back to where children can be controlled. I and my wife brought up 7 children and there wasn't a one of them that weren't taught proper manners at home to begin with and they knew that I ruled the roost at home. My oldest son today praises me to others because he was always the instigator as a kid and get the bulk of the punishment and owns up to the fact that I was right and just with my punishment. My kids knew better then to talk back to me or anyone else if I knew about it. I have six boys who always wore caps as kids but knew that cap had better come off their heads as they walked in the door. I have one or two that know when they come to my place today they better take their cap off when they walk in the door or get it knocked off their head by Dad.
Fear of real punishment is the only thing that will make a kid realize right from wrong.... not patting them on the head and saying please don't do that.

This has never happened to me, so my advice is to make sure nothing weird is going on (abuse, bullying, etc..) and then nip it in the bud. Take the TV, the video games, computer use (except for homework with you sitting right there) and do this for two weeks with NO exceptions. Stick to your guns. If you can't be at home, take the tv to work with you locked in the car to keep the kid off it. Do not give in for any reason. Let your child know that if it happens again you will do the same thing plus take the door to his/her room off of the hinges and he/she will have no privacy for two weeks. Get serious, do not back down. Impose a police state. It will be very, very hard on you, but it is worth it. This kid is testing you, and you must receive the respect you deserve. If it does not happen now, you will have trouble from now on.

Well my kids are grown now, but when that happened, I have to be perfectly honest with you, not much happened. I was a complete failure on discipline. I always wanted my children to be happy, and I found it very hard to make them unhappy. They have turned out pretty good, despite my soft heart!.............:)

children aren't old enough yet for the scenario....something for me to think about. Right now...we do time out. I have a feeling that won't work once they start school.
