It's basiclly made from stones and pebbles that have been bashed together repeatedly by the action of the waves and tides. Causing them to chip and break up into smaller pieces again and again..until they become really small. Hey presto...sand.

The sea batters at the cliffs, eroding rock. Over a many years these pebbles, boulders and chunks of rock are bashed together and against the cliff, until they get really small and make sand. Sometimes the sea erodes under the cliff so it hangs over (undercutting). Then one day it may collapse. The flat area that the sand rests on where the cliff used to be is called a wave-cut platform.

The technical term you are looking for is long shore drift!....this is where the sea moves diagnally moving sediment up and down the coast this then leaves and deposits the gravel and stones this is when the beach is formed....
I hope this helps!.....if this is GCSE level here is a link below to help with all homework use these they do help! they helped me for ICT computing and Geography!!
Good Luck..xx

everytime the tide rolls in and and out it picks up tiny pieces of sand pushing them ashore hence after millions of years you have a beach
