I have rust stains in bath tub and I can't get rid of them. I tried lime away which claims to get rid of rust stains, but it didn't work at all. I need some suggestions. Thanks a bunch.

honestly, the only way to get rid of old rust stains is to get a new tub. its very expensive, but it looks much nicer.

Possibly a tub insert may be the only answer. Seen lots of commercials where they say that this and that works but have my doubts as to whether it is false advertising or not. Perhaps if you contact a tub salesperson they may have some other helpful suggestions. Of research old wives tales and how they used to clean out the rust from the tubs. You just may find an inexpensive way with materials you already have to remove these stains.

One great way that I have heard to get rid of rust is to make a paste by mixing hydrogen peroxide and cream of tartar. If you let it sit on the rust stain for a bit, then wipe away, it should come right up. Definitely worth a try! I found it in a book called "The Queen of Clean's Complete Cleaning Guide," and it's been very useful for me thus far.

Try "The Works" bathroom cleaner. It takes off a variety of stains.

It also smells to high heaven, so use it in a well-ventilated room! Turn on the fan if you have one. Spray the tub really well, then leave the room for a while.

Good luck! If the stains are too bad, you'll have to either live with them or replace the tub.

I use The Works toilet bowl cleaner, not the tub/shower cleaner. It seems to be stronger but don't let it sit too long. Rinse often and make sure you have lots of ventilation. Wear gloves, this stuff is strong. Lime away and CLR didn't work for me either. Magic Eraser works too, but takes more elbow grease.

I don't think you can get rid of them but there is a certain kind of bathtub spray paint you can get. This will cover up the rust spot and keep it from spreading. Ask for it at your local hardware store.

im not sure if this will work, but i know that if you soak a rusty screw in coca cola something in the coca cola will eat away the rust, kind of a scary thought since people drink it, but you might end up having to buy a lot of coke...maybe if you soak a sponge with it and then let is rest on the rusty spots...it might work

Actually there is an Industrial cleaner made by Kohler specifically for steel and cast iron tubs. It is called KRC7. Look for this and it will help.

Wink. (or is it Whink?) Bronze colored plastic bottle. Removes rust from fiberglass yachts, should work on your tub. Wash immediately if you get it on your skin. Dab on, let sit, rinse.
