Dont you think it would be a good idea to punish Suicide bombers close family as they themselves cant be punished(apart from going to hell)
Send their brothers, sisters mothers and fathers to 10 years in jail with no parole.
Dont you agree its time to stop handling these people with kid gloves?

Talk about missing the point people.
Suicide bombers are cowardly people who arent around to take resposibility for their actions. This would make them think twice before their dire deeds.

The family should denounce their religion, or the religion should publicly denounce the bomber's beliefs as rubbish.
Not us they say, but it is their religion that is being demonised by their own members and the perpetrators get away with it.
You can't live with evil and protect it while claiming yourself to be innocent?
Denounce their so-called martyrdom as nothing more than an illusion or the work of the devil.
The bombers too are victims and if their fellow worshippers believe it then only they can stop it.
They are no more deserving of recognition than a cold blooded murderer

If the bombers acted of their own volition and their families did not help or encourage them, why should innocents be punished for something they did not do? They are anguished and ashamed enough at having lost a son in those terrible circumstances. The relatives who are suspected of aiding and abetting the London bombers ARE being tried and punished for their participation.
You may think it is a deterrent but what you suggest is a kind of blackmail. It is also a revenge not a punishment, and we sink to the level of feuds and vendettas.
You write "Not drink driving". If you kill somebody else and yourself because you have an accident whilst you are driving a car under the influence of drink or drugs, you are responsible, not your mother, father or siblings. You have committed a crime against another human being and you have not even got the excuse or the pretext of an ideology. So should your family pay for your fault?
What is sauce for the goose....

Even if you locked up the their families do you think that would prevent them from doing what they do?
I think not! If you decide on a certain action knowing that your parents and family are going to suffer knowing that you have killed a lot of people, do you think they would give a toss about having them put in prison?
And what makes you think that a parent, wife, sibling and especially the children want their father to die, let alone live with the stigma of what he has done?

Perhaps, instead of punishing families, we could pass the whole thing over to Simon Cowell, and get him to start "Bang Factor"... invite would-be suicide bombers to audition, and let them do their thing in a confined space - the winner could then sit on the right-hand of Allah... just a thought!

Unfortunately, the fact that we live in a so called civilised society prevents this idea.
If you think about it, suicide bombers hurt people regardless of blame.
Wouldn't we just become like them?

What a load of crap. What about the Beeston 4?Their parents and friends didn't have a clue what was going on.You can not hold the whole family responsible for the actions of a son or daughter etc. What about if a boy racer kills somebody with his car,are you going to jail the whole family because of his actions?

I have a loser brother who is in trouble with the law pretty frequently.... but am I to be punished for his actions as a grown man???
I could see if it were proven that I was assisting him in his criminal endeavors... but not just because of relation by blood....
Same with this idea... you cannot punish just for blood relation.... if you can prove assistance, collaboration, or gain because of the suicide bomber's actions (payment from a terror organization), then that is a different story

I reckon that if the family took part in the radicalisation of the suicide bomber then yeah, but if not then that isnt justice its revenge. justice an freedom is what we fight the terrorist for so if we diverge from those ideals then we are just as bad as the terrorists.

yeah thats a really good idea, and any other murderers and rapists that have the compassion to rid us of their tyrranies.
you idiot! did you even think about this question?
you cannot punish someone's family for a concious descion they made, any decent person will find punishment enough in knowing their offspring/siblings have done murder!
you say kid gloves bah! you do not juggle with grenades! they will go off eventually
