1998 Acura GS-R, bought w/ no motor-(stolen, recovered w/o engine, obviously) well i scored a 1997 1.8L LS motor, i am going to turbo, looking to push 325-400whp. DO I need to hone the pistons of this block to handle the stress of the boost? quoted at $1,200. I want to run 15-30 psi boost. Part #2 question: How much is a front wheel drive LSD (limited slip diff)? Can you buy a used one? This is costing ALOT more than originally expected, I mean like $5-$8 grand b-4 i go smoke wrx's(sti) and evo's, mustang's, and camaros!!!!!

the engine is going to be completely re-built! it's down to the block, new chip, and NO it's not a line of crap-you "bore"/"hone" out your piston width='s more compression='s faster fuel/air ratio='s faster car! and yes stock sti and evo's will see my bumber!!! what do you drive, mr. line of crap? a crx?

Hey "lcky" read on...

Sleeve the cylinders, then you bore and hone to final size

What difference does a GSR or a LS bottom end make if it will be entirely rebuilt?

No need to run over 20 psi for 400 HP depending on Turbo of course.

LS is WAY better for boost, lower compression and much cheaper! I’ll spend $2000 on a motor any day over $4,000 + on a GSR….and good luck finding one

welcome to the integra family ;) and the LS motor is the best to boost.. parts are cheaper.

You don't hone pistons, you hone the cylinder. You will need stronger connecting rods, stronger crank, a stronger drive shaft and differential, etc. To run 30 psi is just ridiculous and asking for trouble, or too much of a price tag if you do it right. Honestly, scrap the LS motor, get a GS-R bottom end (basically the bottom end of the block, crank etc) and mate it with SI heads. that way you get the torque of the GS-R and the horsepower of an SI, that LS peice of junk will get you no where, especally the horsepower you want.

I'd run 14 psi if I were you. I've seen major problems with people running over 20 psi.

If you want to run boost up to 30 psi, you're going to have to do a lot to reinforce the engine. To get that kind of power at the wheels, you're probably going to have to do more than just slap a turbo on to a stock 1.8 LS motor. You'd probably want to add a chip, change the camshaft, lightweight pulleys, maybe completely new engine internals....

You aren't going to be smoking any STIs with that...and how does "honing the pistons" increase stress resistance? Someone's feeding you a line of crap.
