Because Yahoo is ********* with their use of asterics. Before anyone gets their panties in a twist, see definition below.

It should be. My 8 year old came home from school, when a black boy called her a cracker. I went to the school and the principal, also black, said that is okay. It's the N word you can't say. Well my daughter is white and would never call anyone a racist name. Our school is very diverse and any type of racism in my household is not tolerated. The principal said since we are white we have it easy so let the little boy get his kicks since he will have it hard the rest of his life.
As all being human beings, can't we draw the line some where.

Well, they also have politically correct meanings. I do like a cracker with my chili, and my father in law listens to honkey tonk music -- but I do agree that in the incorrect contexts they are offensive. My brother in law was called a f*n cracker one day when he was getting on an elevator - and his jaw hit the floor when he heard it. People seem to find offense in every little thing in today's society - wouldn't it be nice if we could see people for who they are instead of what they are....

they are not equally offensive
cracker & honkey are not slave words
A term used to describe a black person, who is stereotypically considered bad, poor, lazy, addict or criminal. This term was first used during the period when blacks were descriminated against and used as slaves. The white people would yell at them and call them a "filthy ******" when they were slacking of while working out on the fields. This is why the word is so frowned upon today, because blacks feel they are losing their sense of control and being descriminated against just like those hard times.

I find it hard to be insulted by a slang word that means I'm white. I've really never understood why being called what you are is insulting to you if you are proud of yourself and your culture. I think in most cases its not the word that offends people, hence blacks calling each other N----r, or homosexuals calling each other queer, it who is saying the word that gets people upset. We should get over it, its a word not a declaration of war.

Good question!
I think there are a lot of words they could filter, but never tested to see if they are ;)
I don't understand why "honky" isn't filtered, but "cracker" is obvious, there are a lot of words that would get hacked, "Saltine cracker", "Fire Cracker", etc. etc.
I don't think there is ANY room for racism in this world, it's hard enough just to make it day to day without someone "hating", ya know? :)

I think that people can't let the past go. Yes, I think they are offensive, but it all goes back to the fact that they were the slaves.
