By using very fine sandpaper (600 to 1200 grit) Wrap sandpaper around the thumb and gently sand the burned area. If the burn is very bad you may use a more course sandpaper (150 grit is really course) Remember, you must go in stages to succeedingly more fine sandpaper until you reach the 600-1200 grit. This will polish the marble to the point it looks like the rest. The only down side is there will be a slight dip (size of dip depends on the depth you must go to remove the stain/burn/scratch/etc.) The advantage to marble/granite/corian is they are the same throughout. For future reference, cracks may also be repaired in the above surfaces.

Lemon juice and salt - put salt on a half cut lemon, rub onto marble and then wipe with a clean damp rag. Saw this trick on 'how clean is your house' - its great.
