as a rule they don't mix. at work we have a class system with line manages sitting together and then managers sitting together, then all the normal staff sitting with each other. its a shame really as one of my mates just got promoted and they don't sit with me anymore.

I think the standard of living for the majority of people in the UK has risen in the past 10 years and the possibilty for self improvment educational wise and increased employment in may areas has led to a rise in the middle class.
However..
There is still an under class.
and and upper class, although these are very small in comparison to the ever expanding middle class.
Socialiazation for the upper and under class would be non-existant. Unless it is in the professional/service user roles.
EG. Homeless person/manager of social work services.
I think people who belong to the middle class can and do occassionaly mix with both under and upper class.

I socialise with people that work for me on our estate.
There is a definate bobbing of heads as if to say "good evening sir". Personally, I'd prefer it if they were more relaxed with me.
I think money can sometimes make people behave differently. I get a totally unnecessary degree of respect just because i've got money and live on the "big house on the hill"
Generally, i don't socialise with people in a similar postion to myself ( financial/house/estate etc ) . I see status as irrelavent and have little in common with them. I'd much rather be with people who are down to earth.
i consider myself to be working class. Money does not define your class.
generally though, the classes don't mix. When did you last see Tarquin drive to a sink estate in his Austin Martin to see his mates burn up the esate in thier escorts ?
Not saying I even agree with a class structure, i ignore it ( except for question like this that make me thinhk about it ) , but people who say it doesn't exist are not right. There is a whole structure of people in the UK tht don't mix with working people. Maybe they will mix with you at hunting ( as mentioned above ) but its not mixing in the sense of sharing thier lives with you. The reverse it alos true, there is a whole group of people who would not even talk to me just because it takes 15 minutes to walk from my front gate to the house..shame

They rarely do which is a pity as they would all learn something about each other.
Personally, I bow down to no man, woman, king, queen nor god. I am equal to all.
