you'll love it! it will get cooler than you would imagine in evenings so take something warm. it is a Muslim country so just be sensible - you dont have to cover up totally but try and avoid short shorts and too much flesh (having a sarong in your bag is a good idea - doubles as skirt and emergency shawl/wrap if you need it) loose clothes prob best.

at the pyramids - on the road up you'll get loads of guys trying to get you on a camel saying there aren't any closer to the pyramids. Not True - these guys will fleece you. wait till u get to the pyramids, take your pics etc and then get on a camel - there will be lots of guys hanging around - you will pay much, much less.

Luxor - must see all the temples and sail in a 'faluka'(??) - little sailboat down the mighty Nile.

food etc. v cheap and tasty.

shopping - always bargain - esp. on papyrus - its everywhere - never buy from the posh shops b'cos massive mark up.

have fun!

Hi, let's tackle each point at a time;
Cairo - a lot of 5 star hotels, prices are in the range of $80-120 per person/ night. Hyatt and 4 seasons are in the range of $150-300. Conrad, Hilton are decent hotels for the first range, if u can afford the second, then go for Hyatt in Garden City.

- Food: there are tons of fast food, so kfc, pizza hut, mc donald's etc are all there. If u are looking for a great restaurant that serves loca food try Abou El Sid - reservations needed phone # is 7359640 - address is 157 26th July St in Zamalek. I would also recommend you try Sangria a great pub/ restaurant overlooking the nile - tel 5796511 - reservation also needed.

- Clothes - weather should be a bit cold so bring a light jacket for nights, mornings should not be too hot. Dress casually, do not wear extremly revealing clothes.

- Cairo - places to visit - pyramids, Egyptian museum in Tahrir square, the Citadel

Luxor- great city, but I would strongly recommend you take a nile cruise intead of just going to a land based hotel. The 3-4 night trip is beyond amazing and u get to see all the great monuments in both Luxor and Aswan.

If you want more information about outings in Cairo, I suggest you take a look at the below site.

Do not miss Muhammed Ali mosque in Cairo! It's a wonderful, amazing building, you will surely love it! Don't forget to take off your shoes when entering. Drinks (like juices, cola) cost cca. 5-20 Egyptian Pounds, you can also buy a bottle of water (Barakka, 1.5 Liters) for cca. 5 Egyptian Pounds. When visiting the Pyramids, you can enter the big one for 15 Egyptian Pounds, but do not forget that no camera or camcorder is allowed inside. Remember there are not only the Gizah Pyramides but the oldest one, the stepped Pyramid of Dzoser in Sakkara. It's an interesting program to visit the Kopt memories of Cairo, the Egyptian Museum with all the great treasures of the pharaos (no camera allowed).
In Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Tutankhamon's grave is an additional 70 Egyptian Pounds if you are interested in it. Do not miss the graceful Temple of Queen Hatsepsut and the Temple of Karnak, and sailing on the Nile is a great adventure as well.
If you have time and money left, I am very sad that I had to miss Asswan, because I had no time left, but I am happy because of trying scuba-diving in the amazing underwater world of the Red Sea. It's easy to learn diving, it took me 1 hour only and you have a wonderful underwater panorama even with a snorkelling kit. My personal favourite was a small spice shop in Hurghada, met great friends there. Oh yes, do not forget to try sisha. :-)
Not that pleasant but very useful: against stomach-problems, Drotazide is a nice local medicine, solved all our problems in no time, too. You can get it around 20-30 Egyptian Pounds. I hope it helped. Have a great time in Egypt!

In November the weather will be very nice in Cairo but still hot in Luxor.
I will tell you about Cairo cause that's where I live. You have to avoid see through clothes, shorts and mini skirts. Just don't wear anything too revealing if you don't want men staring. Otherwise you can wear almost anything from skirts to trousers and shirts with sleeves or sleeveless.
There are many places to eat and almost everything is affordable. But you'd better stick to well known names like McDonald's and Hardee's for junk food and Chain restaurants like Chillis, Johnny Carinos, Cortigiano for other types of food. It will all depend where you'll be staying in Cairo cause it's very big but you'll see the difference and will know where to eat as soon as you get there.
Nothing is really expensive.

Cairo may be the capital of Egypt and one of many greatest cities in Africa and the Middle East and a great place to visit; find more with hotelbye . On the Nile lake, Cairo is fabled for its own record, preserved in the wonderful ancient Islamic town and Coptic sites in Old Cairo. The Egyptian Museum in the centre of town is a must see, with its numerous Historical Egyptian artefacts since no visit to Cairo would be complete without a visit to the Giza Pyramids, and to the regional Saqqara Pyramid Complex. In Cairo you will see: The Pyramid of Cheops (also called the Great Pyramid or Pyramid of Khufu), the biggest chart of the Giza class, and its interior of slim passages may be explored, although there isn't much to see, except a plain tomb step having an clear sarcophagus. Straight behind the Great Pyramid may be the Solar Boat Museum, which features one of the ceremonial solar barques discovered in your community that's been meticulously repaired to their original glory. More south on the plateau is the Pyramid of Chephren (also referred to as the Pyramid of Khefre), which includes an inside tunnel area that can be entered.

Luxor's climate will be similar to that of a UK summer. Cairo is a bit damper, cooler and prone to smog.
DO NOT eat out, except at quality hotels, unless you are an extremely seasoned traveller with a cast-iron constitution and in-built resistance to the range of bacteria to be found in Egyptian water. Or unless you are with a quality tour company and they arrange a meal out of the hotel.
Make sure you have holiday insurance that covers medical bills and take your own roll of toilet paper in case you ever need to use public toilets.
That said, enjoy the sights and sites, fight off all the beggars and street traders with a smile and have a good time.

I can't believe people are advising you to eat in McDonalds! Egyptian food is tasty and cheap. Just don't have ice, tapwater, salads or any fruit you can't peel yourself. Brush your teeth in bottled water and check the seals of bottles you buy.

You will most likely get sick whatever precautions you take - but it will only be for a day. Rest, drink lots of bottled water, diluted juice or flat Coke and eat things like soup, tea, toast, pita bread etc.

I got sick on my first trip but now I am fine. It's well worth it!
