It's not necessarily the truth in papers I take everything I read with a hand full of salt.

Well, I have heard of this before on TV and it depends on the story or if it is in the newspaper, the article. For example, if it were on something like Hurricane Katrina, then yes it does influence life in general as those people became affected every single day. If it was about the Rodney King beating by the LAPD back in 1993, then yes also as the story influence how we perceive people of different cultures and races.

You and I can report the 'truth' in different ways.
In order to truly undertsand the answer here, you should take a course in English/Media Studies and/or start comparing the same stories reporteds in different papers. Then you'll see the difference and consider how these differences influence people's perceptions of the world.

It is interesting though to watch different channels' news broadcasts on the same day and see their different interpretations of the same news stories. Or reading different newspapers which are more or less supportive of the government and see which stories they ignore or give less coverage to in comparison to what they consider more important.

It would depend on the story and the way it was broadcast which would determine whether it would change people's ways.

Of course they influence everything. Reports either distort the truth or don't even know what is really going on out there

The word truth is mostly a relative term. Anything you read or hear is skewed by the perceptions of the teller.

Just remember papers report news with a slant. (Or even try to make the news) Quite often it is just an editors OPINION. And papers are in the business of making money.

the news is a kind of a wind up, it can infuriate one, depress on, and all the time one knows that one is helpless, we are the slaves of politics but they are supposed to be our servants, the news brags about all political wrong doing and rub our helpless noses in it.
