Yes, I think that the UN is completely useless. I think that they are a very ineffective body that does the world a lot more harm than good. Take for example the situation with North Korea. They can only get watered down sanctions that will do absolutely no good. The reason is that member nations are always going to do what is best for themselves first- which might not be what is best for the world

No. The idea of an international forum (which is what the UN is) is good. I think the problem with the UN is the fact that its major originators never counted on "developing nations" to get as involved and expect equality. Did you know that the UN was fomerly known as the League of Nations, a baby of the United States? Reba K, you are right. "Render the UN useless because it does not serve US purposes" is very appropraite!

Well it seems we have another complete idiot on here. Mr jedithom... or whatever his name is. George Bush has absolutely zero control of the UN. It is a self governing entity. Bush is doing nothing to make the UN look like anything. It is mr. Kofi Anin that is giving the UN a bad name and he is soon to be replaced, then we can wish for better things to come. Until then, try not to reply to things you know nothing about.

No, it is not useless. President Bush has been doing a lot of things on his own that make the UN look foolish and the U.S. like a rogue nation. He should go through them with regard to foreign policy and stop embarrasing America.

Well, they have no power, and accomplish very little, but at least they keep the participating countries communicating and working civilly together. Even if only for appearances.

Read a book. The US has rendered the UN useless because it doesn't serve US purposes.
