Turns out it is true, who would have thought it? To date he has given away 22 billion to charitable causes.

He has not given it yet, he has transferred the largest fortune
to a foundation to be donated. The great thing about Mr.
Gates is that he, and his wife, make the donation after going
through many options. Once donated, he follows up to make
sure that this donation is well used and within the donation‘s
intent. It is a full time job, and now, with Mr. Buffets donation
to the foundation he has twice the money to distribute.

If you consider the cases in which UN donations, Red Cross
and others never fully achieve the desired purposes, his
running the show, with his wife, inspecting where he could
be of most help, and later following up on the results, makes
all the difference. I read all about his travels and donations
and, for what he is doing, I notice that he spends little time
at home. Therefore the Gates foundation is a not only a donor,
but also an administrator of these resources. I believe that one
act is as important as the other. One last thought, he certainly
has only started to make this world a better place, and I am
certain that he will succeed. Thanks Melinda and Bill, Buffet
and others who may join, you are making this world a better
place. Cheers to you, Iain Ritchie.

Probably not. Warren Buffett gave Bill's foundation, which is a charity loads of money, like $40b. Bill has probably set aside the most but not actually given it away.

As charity giving is mostly private and confidential, I don't think we'll ever know the answer
