In my opinion, you need to be computer literate, be able to type, be able to spell and write well in your native language as well as any other language you will be working with. An understanding of the environment you will be working in. For example, what are the unwritten rules? Everyone knows the written one, but each organization, culture, etc. has a different set of unwritten rules that are part of their identity just as those written in the Employee Handbook/Manual.

You also need to have a flexible personality and one that is not easily offended. You need to have a good sense of self and what you stand for. Communication with others of varying backgrounds is essential. If you are just as comfortable talking with the lowest member of the staff as you are the highest, are sincere, and non-judgemental, you will go far.

Finally, be able to laugh at yourself and your mistakes. Be able to say "I'm sorry. I made a mistake. It won't happen again" and MEAN it. Don't take credit for others' work and don't let others take credit for yours. Speak up when you become aware of an injustice whether it is to yourself or someone else. Always be on the side of honesty, decency, and integrity and you can learn pretty much everything else.

Good luck!
