Christmas was placed in December to over shadow pagan celebrations. Many of the pagan festivities and decor were also "borrowed". Christmas..to christians is about the birth of christ. Let them have it. I do agree however that jesus is not the reason for the season since there are obviously many other celebrations that occur around the same time that do not include jesus in the season.
Many christians have to realize that December is not "all about them"

You might prefer to celebrate St. Nicholas Day, which is a separate holiday some European countries celebrate. It focuses on the gift-giving by the person who is credited with creating our current "Santa Claus".
For people who celebrate a mix of "Christmas" and "St. Nicholas Day" (many Americans) it will continue to be The Reason for the Season. There are those who choose to celebrate only one part of the holiday-St. Nicholas Day. They are the people who continue to put up trees and buy gifts, etc. but they do not participate in any religious programs. The people who promote the "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" have been on a mission to return the meaning of Christmas to that of the 1700-early 1900's before Santa Claus became such a huge part of the holiday that was at that time primarily a focus on Christ and family.
It would be impossible to take Christ out of Christmas because just as the meaning of many other words has changed, so has the meaning of the word "Christmas". A better change would be to the more European way of celebrating the two holidays, separately. That will not, however, happen because the business community would never be willing to give up the profits of a second holiday.

You make a good point. December 25th was chosen as they day to celebrate Christmas because of the pagan holiday. Then Christian's could celebrate without being caught. Since church doctrine has accepted this date as the date to celebrate Christ's coming into the world then it is the reason for the season. Especially since the pagans who began the tradition no longer exist and it is called Christmas. No one is forcing you to go to Church or celebrate the Christ in Christmas. Just enjoy the time off of work and quit being so bitter.

If you are a Better than Jesus, should we worship you?
No. I would Not! Who created winter and the seasons? Christ did,
not you, or pagans.
You are not special but blasphemous and unholy, and ignorant.
Christ is here to stay in our hearts, and in our souls.
Christ conquered paganism by being born on the 25th of Dec.

You can do whatever you want with your hardened heart and blasphemous words.......why air it here? If you don't want to participate in such a wonderful event, don't.
Jesus is the reason for every season. Immanuel, God with us. Believers celebrate it everyday, and we are under no such bounds as pagan beliefs, we know what it's all about.
Jesus is the Light of the world.
A light shone in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.

Actually, there are many holidays that occur in and around Dec 25th. Christmas is only one of them. Christmas is marked on the calendar because of the number of Christians in western countries. A large number of Muslims also celebrate Christmas. Many non-Christians, especially in Asian countries, have also adopted Christmas as a secular holiday, focusing on gift-giving and taking a day off.
However, if you're not Christian, feel free to celebrate (or not) as you like! Just because your day isn't on the average calendar doesn't mean it isn't important: it just means it didn't get on the calendar!

So what should we call it Adonis Day, Mithra Day, Krishna day...Christianity is an amalgamation of paganism and christianity brought about by Constantine and he adopted the 25th as it was a pagan festival but also to ease in Christianity. So should we then move Christmas to March?

Would Jesus approve of a Holiday that is based on a lie? Didn't Jesus tell his followers to speak the Truth with their neighbors?
Go to any library, and look up Christmas in the enclopedia.

He is the reason for my season, but you go with what you believe in. However, I have CHRISTmas day off to celebrate Christ's birth. So, if that's not what you believe in, maybe you should trot youself to work that day!

So? I don't care if it is a "Pagan Celebration". I'm sticking with what I believe. If u think that Dec. 25th is a Pagan Celebration, than go ahead.
