Don't listen to PC Doctor, his vague answer will have you wasting your money.

As you can see from a little research on the Dell website (source link below) your Dimension 4550 has two memory slots and a maximum capacity of 1GB of RAM. For this you would need to install two 512MB DDR modules.

It says in the technical specs that it supports DDR266 and DDR333 SDRAM. This should help you purchase the correct memory for your system, but to install the maximum 1GB you might need to remove the current memory and install two new ones.

You might find the Crucial website very helpful for getting you the right memory for your machine. The website is www.crucial.com and they have country-specific sub-sites. I don't know if you're in the USA, UK or another country.

I hope that helps!

difficult query yet thrilling... i might relatively lose my reminiscence. the flexibility to experience permits you to realize for the 2d situation in spite of the feelings. i do no longer want to stay with only concepts its like a action picture that performs many times, good element if its a chuffed reminiscence yet what if the undesirable ones are stored -- feels like being punished accepted :-)

The Crucial website is very good for finding out what kind you need, just DON'T buy it there as it is absurdly expensive.
