Yes, I am pressing in the brake. It's done this before and I think it's a problem with the car registering that the brake is pushed in to allow it to shift...looking for anyone whos' had this problem...

If it happens intermittently, then I would be almost certain it is the key. If it is permanently stuck, then it is probably something else. Anyway, try removing the key from the ignition and then putting it back in.

The best answer I can tell you is there is no way to tell how much it is going to cost you. The problem is that you cant tell what is wrong with a transmission until you take it out and get inside of it to see what exactly is broken. It could be a sensor or switch then maybe $200 but if your transmission is actually completely bad which i highly doubt in all my years working a tranny shop i have never seen one with everything broke. BEWARE of where you take it... some tranny shops will feed you a line to get you in the door, take your car apart then you are stuck. Research the company you take it to very well... Make SURE they are reputable. Another suggestion is call jasper engines and transmissions they offer a 3 year 75,000 mile warranty on transmissions and they usually beat the dealer price on a tranny by quite a bit but you may have to pay someone to install it. Jasper has the best warranty i have ever seen. If you have any questions let me know.

Try unhooking the pos side of the battery for app.30 min. Hook it back up and start the engine and see if this allows it to come out of park. If it does have VW ck for the problem and give you a est. on repair. Good luck

Ummm ya it sounds like your transmistion is going and well...... You might as well go ahead and buy a new car for as much as that will cost you.
