I had a 1996 car. It had a locking steering wheel. When it was turned to the left when I turned off the car, it wouldn't move or start when I tried to start it again. This happened twice before I found out that it locked if I didn't straighten out the wheels before I shut off the engine.
In order to get it to work again, I found out that I had to turn the steering wheel hard to the left to get it to disengage. Then I could start the car.
Your car may be made the same way. Try it.
If this doesn't work you need to contact the dealer. You may be able to get an answer over the phone or maybe by emailing their website.
Also, check around. It may be in a recall or a lawsuit for this problem.
Good luck. Cars are a pain!

Steinwald may actually be right. The brake/shift interlock mechanism may be locking up. However, this would normally entail some fluid getting into it,, which is not a normal situation, and may be indicative of a larger problem.
Have it checked by a mechanic before you won't be able to shift out of park at all!!

Its a plastic button - not metal. Therefore the WD-40 will only do so much. You'll want to find a silicone lubricant - even somthing like Armour All might help you.

you opt for transmission fluid to your vehicle(GM type). In a pinch capability guidance fluid could desire to artwork(it quite works with considered one of the two worry-unfastened American transmission fluids- nevertheless it quite is been a mutually as so that's which?!). by utilising the by utilising the vehicle could desire to be point and warm/ engine working and transmssion in park or unbiased based(dipstick it commonly has guidelines). yet another threat is your vehicle on slope and the burden of the vehicle has located adequate rigidity on linkage to circumvent shifting transmission. that's why you opt to have foot on brake or shift to unbiased and work together parking brake in the past shifting to park. this could preclude that little roll in park which places all of the automobiles weight against a sprint pin in transmission protecting automobile in place- and 'binding' transmission shifter. utilising foot/acquaintances you are able to roll automobile a sprint(up hill) to do away with that rigidity and set parking brake.
