Since you already took that decision it is of no use to bring you alternatives. Considering that January is the worst month in Greece weatherwise, destinations based on this are not important ... Mykonos is very special and beautiful; tourist industry spent lots of money to paint it white, and the town realy looks great under the blue skies.. one feels good there for a couple of days.. since you are there in this particular month, you will have exclusive rights to enjoy the beautiful narrow streets and visit the cosy little musea (Lena's house & the Shipping musea).. but, lets be honnest, June or September are better months to be there. Enjoy your stay; my Greek winter destination is Xmas &Nyear in Athens. Grtz

The best season to visit any Greek island (apart perhaps from Crete which is lively all year round) is from late May to Mid-September. If you wanted to get a taste of the party all day and all night Myconos you should go during the first 15 days of August. Now in January as previously said it will be kind of empty, clubs will probably be closed and you won't be able to swim in the beautiful beaches cauz it will be really really cold. Can't you perhaps stay in Athens? It will be nice and you will have many options as far as nightlife, shopping, dining is concerned.

not as populated with tourists as u'll might expect, temperature around 15 to 18 dgrs & the clubbing scene almost empty...for short, January = not a good month to go to Mykanos....if these r the only things u r interested in - u also have the windmills, the pedestrian streets, the charming white houses, anyway, try it in summer!

It depends on what you are looking after...
If you are looking for the famous Myconian night life, it definately is not the period to go and you will see a deserted island with most restaurants, clubs, pubs and beaches closed.
If you are looking for a nice place to relax, facing the beautiful Aegean Sea and coming in direct contact with Mother Nature, then do come! it's the right season to do so!...
