It's a programme where would-be entrepreneurs or inventors pitch their product for about 5 minutes to four judges. These judges are multi-millionaire business people and they decide whether or not they want to invest in your idea/product in return for a percentage of the business.
Aside from your pitch, they require you to demonstrate the product and also that you know your market, costs, projected profits, safety testing, whether you've applied for patents, etc. They in return offer you the money and some of their expertise in the field for a percentage of your profits.
It's a really good programme but beware, if your idea stinks then they don't hold back with their criticism. Things which have made it through are a truck wash for use at service stations, a small device which prevents seat belts strangling children and a programme that allows you to mix dance tracks for your MP3 player so a varied scope.
People usually fail because they have no idea of their market, they have vastly overpriced the value of their company, the product itself doesn't work or is too easily copied or just because they have the wrong attitude towards the dragons.
It's a well-made programme that is very popular in the UK and is shown on the BBC.

Basically, there's about five multimillionaire business entrepreneurs in a room who have a stack of cash that they are willing to invest in people's businesses and inventions if they are convinced that it will work and is worth it.
They sit there and listen as a representative from the business in question stands in front of them and pitches their idea, invention or small company and explains how or why they need the money. They must try to persuade one of the entrepreneurs to back them financially in return for a percentage of their business. The entrepreneurs will then ask questions and either opt out or make an offer to the representative. Sometimes the entrepreneurs even end up bidding against each other. It's very good to watch and a great way to boost your enterprise, if you or someone who is associated with your business has the gift of the gab and is able talk them into it!

The basic idea is that you pitch your idea to a number of business leaders (dragons) and then they decide if they will fund it and enable it to go ahead. It is a very popular programme and shown on BBC2.
One of the contestants from one of the previous series of the programme has gone on to buy up "Fitness First" health clubs and they are being renamed Ballantynes.

two top tips fom an avid fan of the show.
be careful not to over inflate the value of the buisness. there is no point trying to sell them shares based on a price the buisness might be worth in five years time as no one will invest.
secondly known your figures inside out and back to front. any slip up and they will just pull out.
remeber they are professional and know what they are talking about. to play on their level you have to be to. plus if you are lucky enopugh to get to the dragons den then remember they will bring more than just cash to your buisness. they like it when you talk about their expertise and credentials.
in short, know them before you get there and know your self.

Its really good there are four investors and they are looking for a new business venture to invest in. People go and see them and present their invention or idea to them and the investors ask questions and decide if they would like to invest or not they can be a bit cruel but makes good tv.

Its a way of talking to venture capitalists to get them to buy into your product , service or idea.
You'd have to present to them over a few days, then they would film a final summary presentation for the TV. They can then choose to invest or not.
Many of the agreements fall down after initial pre-contract discussions but if your product is right it seems quite genuine.

four or five business men and women sit in a loft room and you present your idea to them.
they can then chose whether to invest.
you hae to specify the amount of money you are looking to get invested and how much equity you are willing to give up.
if you cannot get all of the money you get nothing at all.
the usually try and up the equity very steeply so set it low, but you have to be very aware of your accounts as they will ask you.
take your books in and any copies of contracts you may have won.
they are very well connected and rich people and if they chose to invest you are almost guarenteed success!!!
good luck, I hope I see you!
