They are very appropriate for today. No need to change anything.

You don't grasp teh idea of original sin, thus the 7 sins, the deadly so called one, have to remain the same as in the Bible. Yu can't change something that you have to take for granted, and analized each in some given situations you will find them more suitable that other modern sins.

We could modify them to good effect I think. No reason not to given that they were a creation of people in early Christian times, rather than anything specific in religion.

Presently we have:
Pride, Avarice, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth

Should Lust really be there? It was changed from Extravagance (luxuria) anyway so we wouldn't be the first to meddle. Is it so bad to be lustful? It has been argued in the past that the Catholic church has done much harm by their demonisation of sex.

Compared to being a sadist? Where would murduring someone for pleasure fit under the old seven?

Is dictatorship or megalomania worse than eating a bit too much in gluttony?

I guess that the seven sins involve many of our current actions today, I really can't think of any other "modern" sin

First of all and with no offense meant, what you speak of in context is only relevant to a narrow segment of the global society.

Not everyone abides by the author or the text, of those "SINS" nor do all of us find them to be relative to our own very personal situations.

I think maybe gluttony should be rethinked, specially with all the obesity problems, but i think the rest of them are quite appropriate for the time...lust, envy, anger, sloth, greed, pride are quite bad now a days in a society that measures people for what they have and not what they are

No name would have it just about right except for the bible thumpin nut jobs. I think I would change it to certain people who do crazy things (like bombing buidings and molesting children) that call themselves bible thumpers but aren't really.

I think maybe we should add a few to the list, but other than that, the ones we've got are right.
Avarice should be called materialism, too.

No, the root cause always comes down to those seven - think about it.
