I realize that I may just be naive, but how do you check your cervical mucus? Is there a special contraption? Do you do it with your hand or fingers? This is a serious question...please help me.

Well, most women can touch their cervix. Even if you can't the discharge that you can feel in your vagina is indicative of the state of your cervical mucus.
I assume that you are trying to pinpoint the time of ovulation and you are entirely correct that checking the cervical mucus is an excellent way to do that. The kind of mucus that your cervix produces changes in response to the hormones that your body produces. It is pretty thick most of the time but during ovulation it becomes thin and profuse enough to coat the vagina and protect the sperm from the acid environment that would normally kill them. After ovulation the secretions thicken and the vagina will seem drier.
There is nothing special that you need to check on this. You can check with your fingers. Any woman can do it yourself. It is just part of paying attention to what your body is up to.
Good luck honey. Write to me if I have not answered your questions.
Blessings

Considering you could still be "leaking semen" up to 3 days after sex,I'd give it awhile. Don't check right after sex. Why worry about it? Just have sex when you feel like it,and pregnancy will happen a LOT sooner than it does for women that get sooooo stressed out over it! I got pregnant with my son after only TWO TIMES of not using a condom! I chose to not get stressed about it. If you're that worried,by an OPK. Best of luck to you!

check it with your hand/fingers...everything I've read says ya just stick your clean fingers into your vagina and take a sample...observe...and log(there are number systems to log what type of mucus it is). You can also use toilet paper.
