I want to but the best sewing machine I can get for around $300-$500. What is a good brand and type? I also want something that is easy to learn how to work. I love sewing, but know nothing about the machines.

Wow, for three to five hundred dollars you are looking for a humdinger of a machine!!!

Let me take it upon myself, as one who sews a real, real lot, that for a beginner you might not need to go that high. I have a Simplicity Quilter's Classic that I got from Wal Mart for just under $300 or there abouts. It does everything I ask and more. It is easy to use, easy wind bobbin, threading, stitch changes, etc.

I would start out small and easy and then as I gained experience and was comfortable using that machine, trade up. As you learn to use your machine, your skills at sewing will improve and you will know what you want out of a machine........I hope I'm making sense and this helps you out. Sewing is a wonderful hobby.

Good luck!!!

Check ebay for sewing machines and the major brands Singer, Brother, Kenmore, White, Viking, etc all have wonderful websites.

Singers are great, however I purchased machine at Joann fabrics that I really like and it was only $99.00. I can't remember the brand name... They had more pricey models then I one I chose. I'll e-mail you the name when I'm home tonight.

I forgot - my machine is in storage.

WHITE it was WHITE. I did purchase the cheep model but I love it. I couldn't believe I got such a nice sewing machine for such little money.
