Maurice "The Rocket" Richard is the best of all time.
jujubah_0...>>>>>Hobey Baker wasn't even close to the greats of hockey, he had all his attention from the press cause he was playing in all different sports even captained Princeton football team his final year. and he played the position as ROVER in hockey way back when they had 7 men on the ice. you can't compare him to players like Howie Morenz, Aurel Joliat, Newsy Lalonde, Joe Malone, Frank McGee, Art Ross, Cyclone Taylor, this are the Legends of the game back in the day, and the pioneer's of what hockey is today.
Metallica...>>>> well said
cyrenaica>>>> bad stats my friend....remember the cancer started hitting Lemieux in the early 90's, Wayne had a power house team from the start scoring 400 goals a season as a team Mario started his career with a crappy team and after a good 5 years they really turned it on but by that time the cancer was on him. from 1990 to 1996-97 season he has missed over 200 games and he had at one point 613 goals in 745 games and that was by 1996-97. Mario Lemieux avg. goals per season was 62 a year think about that. 613 GOALS IN ONLY 745 GAMES THE GREAT ONE DIDN'T EVEN DO THAT.

You are possibly in exactly the same vessel as the great majority of sports gamblers up and down the united states who are dropping a lot more than they actually win. It's likely you have the sporadic gain that maintains you finding its way back for more, but a lot of the time your options lose. And that costs you actually additional money! If you intend to put the finish at this issue you then should search here https://tr.im/2IwMy .
With Zcodes you can get the equipment recommendations so that you may get the bets and more.
Zcodes System also features a very productive community that also weighs in and allows there two dollars about each game. Maybe there is an integral damage Zcodes does not know about. No problems, the forum members will let you know before you place your investment down.

Tough question.. and it starts by what do you define as best..
For me, who could single handedly change the scope of a game or a playoff series..
I would argue that no one was a better passer or scorer than Wayne Gretzky.. but was he the best player in history.. Gretzky was not a very good defender, in part, because he didn't have to..
The best pure goal scorer over his career was probabaly Rocket Richard.. but he was the guy you fed the puck to and don't expect to get it back..
The best all-round forward, probabaly Gordie Howe.. he could score, go in the corners and come out with the puck, could pass, and such..
Bobby Orr certainly was the greatest defenseman that ever laced them up, with maybe Nick Lidstrom a very distant second.. Orr changed the way that blue liners were expected to play the game and he was the mold that such players like Lidstrom, Paul Coffey and Bjore Salming were 'allowed' to develope and help the position to evolve..
However, The way I look at it, perhaps the one guy who could change the entire make up of a series or even a single game.. and as much as I don't particularly care for the guy, but will give him his due was Patrick Roy.. Arguably the best netminder ever (take it easy Sawchuk fans)
If I had to chose one player in history, at his peak, to start my team with.. I would choose Roy first, Orr second, Howe third and Gretzky 4th..
And as someone else suggests, it's just an opinion..

In my mind, there is no question - Bobby Orr is the best*. There probably will never be another forward like Gretz but there will probably never be any player anywhere like Orr.
Dude, check out his stats. This is a guy that led the NHL in scoring AS A DEFENCEMAN - TWICE. This is a guy who set the NHL record for plus/minus. Nobody's beat it, and he set that record like 30 years ago. He set the record for points in a season as a defenceman - Coffey came within a point but couldn't beat it.
Plus, when Gretz and Coffey and Lemieux and co. played, the league was much more open, and so there was even more open ice to work with.
Orr just didn't put up the kinds of career numbers that Gretzky
or Howe did because Orr's career was cut short because of knee injuries. Plus, as "childhoodtrauma" points out, Orr revolutionized his position to an extent nobody else has ever matched, whatever position he played.
* Bryan Fogarty might have been even an even better player, but with him we're only left with "might have". Worth mentioning but doesn't count.

i think its impossible to single any one individual player, especially since hockey is 125 + years old. A better question would be more directed at specfic eras of hockey, for instance, the 1980's would have to be the great one Wayne Gretzky. You aalso have to factor in everyone has their own oopinions and perspectives on it as well, for instance in the 1990's i belive Broduer to have been one of the greatest players in the 90's or maybe even Jagr,it is a good question, just a matter of being more specific, becuase it almsost impossible to narrow it down to one player over a span of 125 years

the most points scored by a hockey player Wayne Gretzky the most point score by a hockey player in the shortest time Mario lemieux, the best all-round hockey player Gordie Howe he could shot ,defend ,score from angles lay the body and skate.
the best player should be consider in ability, puck handling, skating, defense ability , shot accuracy, strength and leadership.
don't get me wrong Wayne Gretzky is undisputed in points.
but the most points does not make you the best player automatically. lemieux had way more ability than Gretzky but he was plagued with injuries and ended his career short , Gordie Howe was a more complete player than Gretzky and he was doing everything from checking to assisting, rocket Richard was as good as Howe but with more skating despite being smaller the rocket would Battle anyone now i don't think Gretzky would do that
so in conclusion
Gordie Howe the best well rounded player
Wayne Gretzky the best scorer and most points
bobby Orr the best defense man
terry sawchuk the best goalie.
well that is my opinion.

it is bobby orr. can the "greatest" garbage, he may not have even been the greatest forward of his own time.
orr (and second is ROY for the same reasons) changed the entire game for every team in the nhl from then forward.
offensive d-men are a requirement, moving forward as a unit is a requirement. there have been 3 decades of rules (many of them failure's) to try to get the game corrected for orr's influence. the only gretzky changes were more room behind the net (eliminated) and the elimination of 4 on 4 play during penalties (also eliminated)
roy mad that fat kid who was the worse on you team the goalie rule change, while there were great netminders before, roy's popularity created an era were goalies were often as offensively and defensively skilled as their counterparts.
the advancement of the d-men corp over 4 decades and the goalie position ober 3 decades combined with the nhl being virtually leaderless almost destroyed the game as well
so again
1) orr
2) roy
3) wayno
4) mario

Mario Lemiuex because he only played in about 900 games and has about 1700 points. Gretzky played in over a 1000 and had 2857 points. mario never played a full season, Wayne did. Points per game Mario is better. had he played a fulll season he would be the all time leading scorer in NHL history.
