For a while the civil war that simmers, if not boils, there now would become all the more extreme. In time it would die down but probably only with a new dictator government.
When you read that a civilian is 200 times more likely to be killed in post-war Iraq than when Saddam was in power it makes you wonder if the West should just back off.

The only person to hold the country together in the past 2000 years was an iron hand dictator that the US wants to hang. yeah, I was in Iraq, the place will fall apart under a democracy rule. Why are we giving them democracy? America is still only a republic. Why don't we work on ourselves before forcing something upon the world that we ourselves truly aren't even ready for?
Sorry, went off on a rant. So yes, if we leave, civil war, separate countries. But I support our leaving, because i hate knowing that all of my friends who are still in are going back, serving 18 months, getting 11 months at home to try to save their marriages, and then going back until a minimum of 2010.

Very definitely. Iraq was under Saddam Hussein for so long and every uprisely was put down. He is no longer in power and now the country is trying to get another power structure. There are many people in Iraq that wish to be in power and will do anything and everything they can to force the people to accept them. What needs to happen is for the militias to be disarmed, all Iraqs to be protected by their government and the everyday Iraq to be given a voice in his government. Right now, the government is weak and if we pull out, it will fall.

The Iraqi people have had their chance at a free government. It is not in our power to make them appreciate the opportunity they've been given.

I think so. What the US people do in Irap is basically maintain order, helping the fragile government and to scoop up any remaining taliban survivors. When the US leaves, those people will go out to shoot every one in the streets and continue their 'holy war'.

Difficult to tell.
I think Iraq needs a strong leader whether the US stay there or not. Also they need to sort out their borders to keep trouble making foreigners like from the UK out!

It is already getting worse. From a Vietnam Veteran, we should never have gotten involved.

It seems obvious that we are not helping. Yeah, it would probably get worse for awhile if we left, but at least they would fight it out and it would end eventually. I don't think it will ever end if we stay there, and getting out would sure be better for us.

I can't see how it could get much worse. Whether or not we are there, they will fight. They've done it since time began. I remember when they threw rocks at each other.

We really have no business there at all. I say let them fight it out amongst themselves and let God (or Allah) sort them out. They don't want us there. Why the hell are we trying to help them? We really don't need the oil that badly, do we?
Sorry... I got off track. My answer is.... WHO CARES?
