Most likely your harddrive is unharmed, so the data is still there. It will be possible for a computertech to get the harddrive from the computer, and access the data from another PC. I`m pretty sure most computercompanies would do this for you for without charging a lot (if you purchase a new machine at their dealership)

You may be able to take the harddrive and install in a new pc if that unit is undamaged. If the harddrive is damaged as well, there are recovery services that will extract information for you. Not sure how much the cost is though.

Unplug your HD from Old PC, Attach it to your new PC by yourself or you can ask to the shop where's you buy a new pc to check your HD and Install it to your New PC.
if you want to do it yourself, look at this site : http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/
If your HD is damaged, you can still try to get your data.
- wrap tight your damaged HD with plastic
- try to put your damage HD to your freezer for one day.
- after that, quickly plug your HD to your New PC in secondary IDE (if you use IDE HD)
- Turn on your PC.
- Find your data in damaged HD, if you found it, quickly copy to Drive C (New HD)
sometimes, this method can help you to get your data back from damaged HD.
if not, maybe your HD circuit board is damage too bad. take your HD to some technician, they will try to change all the circuit and retrieve your data.
Hope your HD is not broken.

Yes. If you think the hard drive still works, you can move it to another computer as a second hard drive to see if you can recover any or all of your files.
