My daughter is 12 years old and she is not excited about having to get a shot or a seris of 3 shots (I think she has to get the series but I am unsure) but will do it if it helps prevent ovarian cancer.

I believe your talking about the new HPV shot. HPV can cause cervical cancer in women. I think this is the best thing, well since the invention of the internet! A shot to PREVENT a sexually transmitted disease and what many people do not know is this is undetectable in men! People do not realize how common HPV today or the long term affects of it. A neighbor of mine, has a daughter, a young daughter 16, who has contracted HPV. My daughters will both receive these shots on thier next check ups. Do some research, and get your daughter the shot. Good luck.

Thinking about giving a little girl a shot that can prevent cervical cancer is kind of scary, but if you think of it in the long run, I think it's a fabulous idea. I just had a meeting with the representative of the makers and the long term out come is great. To bad the shot is only give from 9-26 yrs old. I'm 30 and would LOVE to prevent it. But I guess taking care of our little girls is the best thing that we can do.

It has been estimated that 2/3 of all sexually active people under the age of 30 are infected with HPV. In most cases, there are no symptoms, and there is no way to test for it in men.

Being that HPV is the cause of cervical cancer, kids today are VERY lucky that they can be immunized against it. There is no cure for HPV once you have it.

I wish that the immunization had been around when I was a kid.

The new vaccine does not prevent ovarian cancer, it helps to prevent cervical cancer.

If I had a daughter, I would advise her to get the shot.

Force her to do it because I ended up getting HPV from my fiance (that's the disease she is getting the shot for) and let me tell you what they have to do to you is not pleasent. I had to go for a coloscopy where they scrape you internally, you are awake for the procedure and it is less than comfortable, I cried. It's not worth it, it's a stupid shot and it will hurt a lot less than what she will have to go through if she does contract HPV. Yes it can clear on its own etc but the test you have to go through to find out if it's cancerous is super painful. Be a good mom and spare your daughter in the future.

It is a hard choice, on the one hand it could save your childs life, on the other hand, do they really know the full term effects this drug could have and are we just being used as guinnue pigs.
I would definately look right into the research and tests done on this drug.
cheers
